Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai [MNLU, Mumbai] had organized a series of webinar. The name of the series was Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow A Series of Webinar. These webinars were conducted by Centre for woman’s rights and gender justice [CWRGJ], Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai in collaboration with Public Concern for Governance Trust [PCGT], Mumbai. It was a 4 day event in which many renowned people participated. The list of the guest included names like - Sutapa Sanyal, Former DGP of Uttar Pradesh, Mr.  D Sivanandhan, Former DGP Maharashtra, Japleen Pasricha, Founder CEO Feminism in India, Cynthia Stephen, Dalit activist, social policy researcher, independent journalist, and many more. 

 

Event on 8th of march – Women’s day

“Gender equality today for sustainable tomorrow”  was a four day webinar series and 8th of March was the final day of the series. On 8th March,  Mr. Julio Ribeiro, a former Director-General of Police - Gujarat, a Former Ambassador to Romania, a Padma Bhushan Awardee and a Founder Trustee of PCGT and Cynthia Stephen, Dalit activist, social policy researcher, independent journalist, attended the session. The session stated at 4:00 pm and continued till 5: 30 pm. The event was kicked off by an address by Prof. Shraddha Gaikwad, co-ordinator of the Centre and by Asst. Prof. Shriya Mokta co-ordinator of the Centre. After the address by the Co-ordinators the convenor of the Centre Mr. Vedant Vaishali Jayant gave a brief introduction about the Centre for woman’s rights and gender justice [CWRGJ] and Public Concern for Governance Trust [PCGT]. After the brief introduction about the Centre and PCGT, The Registrar of Maharashtra National Law University, Dr. Anil. G. Variath gave a speech on how imp Gender equality is and why is Women’s day holds immense importance.

 

After the address by the registrar, the honorable guest, Cynthia Stephen, Dalit activist, social policy researcher, independent journalist, was invited to speak. Cynthia Stephen spoke about Dalit rights, women rights, gender justice and feminism. The student members of the Centre conducted an interview with Cynthia Stephen, asking her the questions regarding her experiences and her stance is on several social issues which included Dalit rights and woman rights. Cynthia Stephen answered the questions in an excellent manner. The answers showed how experienced and how well read Cynthia Stephen is, the answers reflected the exceptional intellect of Cynthia Stephen.

The next invitational dignitary who was invited to the webinar was Mr. Julio Ribeiro, a former Director-General of Police - Gujarat, a Former Ambassador to Romania, a Padma Bhushan Awardee and a Founder Trustee of PCGT. In his speech Mr. Julio talked about his experiences and how she got to know about the woman’s day and its importance. Mr. Julio Ribeiro also talked about his time as ambassador in Romania. Mr. Julio Ribeiro also talked about PCGT’s work for woman empowerment and helping the policeman. In the presence of Mr. Julio Ribeiro the Convenor of CWRGJ launched the 4th Newsletter of the Centre.
